David Checkley Lifetime Acheivement

2017
Daniel Prentice

He continues a "lifetime" of kite and kite business-related involvement. In addition to manufacturing, he's been long-devoted to spreading quality information regarding kites in the world, first with his own magazine and now as the editor of the AKA's newsletter, "Kiting". More recently, as executive director of the AKA, Daniel has made a strong effort to become an active bridge between our industry and the existing and potential kite community.

John Harris
Kitty Hawk Kites

John founded Kitty Hawk Kites in 1974; he was a pioneer in hang gliding providing instruction, products and service to the new sport. In the late 80’s John expanded Kitty Hawk Kites to include gliding instruction to students and instructors, aviation and outdoor clothing and kites, toys and air products through his retail outlets. The original store is across from Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head and has become a mecca for kite flyers from around the world.
